Director

Dr. Abigail Stickford earned a B.A. in Exercise Science from DePauw University in 2007. She did her graduate work at Indiana University, receiving her M.S. in Exercise Physiology in 2009 and Ph.D. in Human Performance in 2013 - during this time she worked with the Sports Science and Medicine division of USA Track & Field. She then completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center) studying cardiovascular and autonomic function, with a particular emphasis in women's health. Dr. Stickford joined the faculty at ASU in Fall 2015.

Graduate Students

Nina Stute is from Oakwood, Ohio and received her B.S. from The Ohio State University in 2019. She is pursuing a Master’s degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in research. Nina currently works in the NCCL as a GRAM with a specific interest in autonomic function in disease states. Her future plans involve learning the research process by completing a thesis and continuing on to further her education by pursuing a PhD.

Valesha Province is a second year graduate student from Tiffin, Ohio.  She received a BA at Denison University (Granville, Ohio) majoring in Health, Exercise and Sport Studies, and minoring in Biology. She also played basketball as Denison (Go Big Red)! She is a graduate assistant in NCCL, and also works in the Exercise and Respiratory Physiology Lab (ERPL) next door. After graduating with her MS, her goal is to work as a collegiate strength coach at a Division 3 institution before retunring to school. In her free time you can find Val playing pick-up basketball at the gym, weightlifting, or at home watching Law & Order.

Sarah Berkebile

  • Major: Exercise Science; Minor: Psychology
  • Career path:  Plans to attend PA school with a goal of owning own medical practice, integrating collaborative medicine as a way to treat patients. 
  • Local favorites: Enjoys exploring new cities, concerts, cycling, traveling, and lounging around Boone.

Taylor Balog

  • Major: Exercise Science, Pre-Professional Concentration 
  • Career path: Plans to attend medical school.
  • Local favorites: Hiking, white water rafting and community service 

Abby Kautz

  • Major: Exercise Science
  • Career path: Plans to attend physical therapy school
  • Local favorites: Enjoys swimming, hiking, community service, and archery! 

Katey Vandernoord

  • Major: Nursing. Minors: Psychology and Healthcare Management
  • Career path:  To gain experience as a nurse before attending a Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner program or Masters program in Midwifery. 
  • Local favorites: Ale house, Boone Bagelry, Trash Can Falls, and all the cute Local Coffee shops!
