Director

Dr. Abigail Stickford earned a B.A. in Exercise Science from DePauw University in 2007. She did her graduate work at Indiana University, receiving her M.S. in Exercise Physiology in 2009 and Ph.D. in Human Performance in 2013 - during this time she worked with the Sports Science and Medicine division of USA Track & Field. She then completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center) studying cardiovascular and autonomic function, with a particular emphasis in women's health. Dr. Stickford joined the faculty at ASU in Fall 2015.

Graduate Students

 

Nina Stute is from Oakwood, Ohio and received her B.S. from The Ohio State University in 2019. She is pursuing a Master’s degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in research. Nina currently works in the NCCL as a GRAM with specific interests in MSNA and training variables. Her future plans involve learning the research process by completing a thesis and continuing on to further her education in both the anatomical and exercise sciences. 

Valesha Province is from Tiffin, Ohio and received her bachelor's degree from Denison University in 2019 majoring in Health, Exercise and Sport Studies, and minoring in Biology. She also played basketball (Go Big Red)! She is pursuing a master's degree in Exercise Science, with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning. Val also works in the Exercise and Respiratory Physiology Lab (ERPL); her primary interest lies in strength and conditioning, but she loves to expand her knowledge and learn other ways to improve health and performance. Val's goal after graduation is to be a collegiate strength coach at a Division 3 institution. In her free time, she enjoys playing pick-up basketball, lifting, hiking, and watching Law & Order: SVU.

Danna Rodriguez is a first year graduate student who completed her B.S. from Appalachian State in 2019. She is currently a graduate assistant at the Paul H. Broyhill Wellness Center. Her career plans are to work in reproductive health, specifically focusing on health factors in both men and women that can cause trouble conceiving. Danna enjoys hiking, watching the sunset, kayaking, swimming in waterfalls on warm, sunny days, and Boone’s culinary scene.

  • Career path:  Plans to attend physical therapy school with the goal of owning a PT clinic centered around community service. 
  • Local favorites: Enjoys playing basketball, cooking, and biking around town. 

Sarah Berkebile

  • Major: Exercise Science; Minor: Psychology
  • Career path:  Plans to attend PA school with a goal of owning own medical practice, integrating collaborative medicine as a way to treat patients.
